Injured Clarke could miss Brisbane Test

Australia are preparing for the possibility of being without captain Michael Clarke for the opening Test against India

Brydon Coverdale15-Nov-2014

It is still uncertain when Michael Clarke will recover from his hamstring problem•AFP

Australia are preparing for the possibility of being without captain Michael Clarke for the opening Test against India. Clarke re-injured his hamstring during Friday’s one-day win over South Africa in Perth and was due to have scans on Saturday, before returning to the east coast and seeing specialists in Sydney and Melbourne, leaving a few days of uncertainty before the full extent of his injury is known.Under normal circumstances, returning in time for a Test series would be Clarke’s sole focus but this summer the situation is complicated by the presence in the schedule of the World Cup in February and March. Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann said Clarke would have his eyes on the World Cup and that getting him fit in time for the first Test at the Gabba, which starts in less than three weeks, would be a serious challenge.”It’s tight isn’t it,” Lehmann said in Perth on Saturday. “But [we] have to see what comes up [in the] next few days.”Clarke has only once missed a Test through injury, when his chronic back problem ruled him out of the final Test of Australia’s disastrous tour of India in 2013. But given the repeated recurrences of his hamstring injury in the past few months it would not be at all surprising if Clarke was unable to get through four Tests against India this summer. The potential loss of their captain would leave Australia searching for a new leader and the logical candidate would be the vice-captain Brad Haddin, but his availability is also uncertain as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury. The selectors may yet have to decide whether to give the captaincy to a tried veteran like Shane Watson, a captaincy specialist like George Bailey, or a potential Clarke successor such as Steven Smith.”Brad’s tracking along pretty well,” Lehmann said. “I think he’ll play the Shield game [starting on November 25] but we’re in the lap of the medicos at the moment, but I’m pretty sure and pretty confident it’ll be fine.”Once we pick the side we’ll work out what happens from there really. We’ve got some younger guys that are in the frame, as many people have said. In the end it comes down to what the selection panel, the chairman of selectors and the board want as their captain as well, so we’re guided by them a bit.”In the longer term, Clarke’s injury could have a bearing on Australia’s World Cup campaign, which begins against England at the MCG on February 14. One-day vice-captain George Bailey will lead the side through the rest of the ongoing series against South Africa and might yet find himself a World Cup captain, and Lehmann said Australia could win the tournament even without Clarke.”The way we play anyway, it doesn’t matter who is in and out if that makes sense,” Lehmann said. “We play a certain way and the XI that are playing that time, they fill those roles. George will take over the reins and do a really good job for the rest of the one-day series.”I imagine he [Clarke] will want to be in the World Cup. So we’ve just got to get it diagnosed, work out what’s going on finally and get it right. That’s the big thing for us get him back playing cricket. First get him fit and healthy and then get him back to play.”In the immediate term, Bailey will captain Australia in the second ODI against South Africa at the WACA on Sunday, where they can take a 2-0 series lead having won the first match. Smith is expected to return to Australia’s line-up in a straight swap for Clarke, after being unlucky to miss out on selection for the opening game.

Encontrando as peças nestas características vamos trazer.

Nazir's 189 overpowers SNGPL

A round-up of President’s One-Day Trophy matches played on November 5

Imran Nazir’s 189 charged Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited to a comprehensive 109-run win by posting 367 in 41.2 overs against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in Islamabad. In reply, SNGPL were all out in 36 overs and Azhar Ali’s hundred took them only to 258.After ZTBL’s opening pair put on 81, the second-wicket stand between Nazir and Yasir Hameed put on 163 runs even though Hameed’s contribution was only 20. The rest of the batsmen could not accompany Nazir for too long as he smashed 189 off only 83 balls, including 26 fours and nine sixes. Azhar and Asad Ali ran through the lower order, taking the last seven wickets for 31 runs. While Azhar took 5 for 66, the least expensive of the lot, Asad Ali finished with 3 for 67.Only one batsman for SNGPL got past 30, as Azhar scored a 76-ball 106. Once they lost five wickets for 192, left-arm spinner Zafar Gohar wrapped up the lower order with figures of 5 for 56 to complete the win.Khurram Manzoor’s ninth List A century helped Port Qasim Authority chase down 231, and secure an easy eight-wicket win against Pakistan Television in Lahore.Manzoor smashed 18 fours and two sixes during his 128, and added 144 for the opening wicket with Shahzaib Hasan, who made 66, as Port Qasim overhauled the target in 35.3 overs.PTV, put in to bat, were earlier buoyed by a century from the opener Imran Ali, that helped them overcome a slow start. Imran’s 103 included 11 fours, and he contributed 163 for the fourth wicket with Mohammad Sami. However, no other batsman could manage more than 13, as the team were restricted to 231 for 8 from their 45 overs. In a shortened game, Pakistan International Airlines prevailed over Habib Bank Limited by two runs according to D/L, thanks to a fifty from Shoaib Malik. PIA, chasing 215, were 182 for 6 in the 40th over when the game was called off.Shoaib blasted five fours as he made his way to 64, and Fahad Iqbal chipped in with a handy 31, but it was a 14-ball 25 from Adeel Malik, who hit three fours and a six, that ultimately made the difference for PIA by taking them ahead of the par score of 180 when the match came to a premature conclusion.Habib Bank’s innings had earlier been built on a patient 68 from the captain Younis Khan, and his 59-run fourth-wicket partnership with Hasan Raza. Younis departed in the 35th over, but Sulaman Qadir added a late surge by whacking six fours and one six, to take the team to 215 for 5.A 53 from Zain Abbas helped Khan Research Laboratories to a comprehensive 64-run win over State Bank of Pakistan in Rawalpindi.Abbas’ innings came with three fours and a six, and he added 53 for the opening wicket with Tayyab Riaz, as KRL made a strong start. Their middle order all made important contributions, including a 39 from Usman Salahuddin, as the team eventually rallied to 218 for 7.Raheel Majeed led the run-chase with a 97-ball 72, but eight of SBP’s batsmen got out for single digits, as Yasir Arafat, Nayyer Abbas and Umaid Asif took two wickets each to bundle them out for 154 in just over 36 overs.United Bank Limited chased a modest 160 posted by Water and Power Development Authority after Adil Raza and Atif Maqbool took four wickets each. WAPDA were all out in 37.4 overs with a late revival from Naved-ul-Hasan, who scored 38 off 35.Raza and Maqbool stifled the batsmen, sharing the top six wickets between them as WAPDA saw five of their batsmen scoring in single digits. In reply, UBL saw stable contributions from their top-order batsmen who scored 101 runs together. Asif Ali and Khalid Usman dented the chase with two wickets each but UBL eventually finished the chase with five overs to spare.

Cricket Australia considers AFL tribunal model

Daniel Brettig23-May-2013David Warner’s privately convened code of conduct hearing for his recent Twitter indiscretions may be the last of its kind, as Cricket Australia consider adopting a system whereby disciplinary charges against players would be heard in forums open to public scrutiny via the media.Adrian Anderson, the former AFL executive, is due to submit his report into CA’s integrity and disciplinary policy management in June. ESPNcricinfo understands that one of its key recommendations may be to call for the opening of disciplinary hearings to outside observers after the fashion of the AFL tribunal. This means a hearing like Warner’s would be open to media reportage, a significant break from cricket’s traditional policy of keeping board matters, including the disciplining of players, decidedly private, opaque affairs. It would also be a marked departure from the convention followed by most cricket boards and also the ICC, which does not permit public access to code of conduct hearings presided over by match referees, nor the appeal hearings that may subsequently eventuate.Anderson is also expected to recommend that CA’s code of conduct procedures and protocols for hearings be tightened, following a summer in which the consistency and transparency of the current system was called into considerable question by a series of incidents during the BBL in particular.Standards of on-field behaviour during the event were allowed to lapse, culminating in the ugly bust-up between Shane Warne and Marlon Samuels at the MCG. That incident and its handling in a pair of seemingly contradictory and indecipherable code of conduct verdicts did not sit well with a majority of players and others.Anderson is likely to call for a new structure to manage integrity and disciplinary matters, moving the BBL chief and CA head of commercial operations Mike McKenna away from a role that currently has him holding both the commercial and disciplinary keys for CA – an apparent conflict of interest.Despite its novelty in cricket, this would not be the first time CA has toyed with subjecting its disciplinary procedures to public analysis. The CA chief executive James Sutherland has previously stated his preference for public hearings and, as far back as 2002, player contracts included a clause allowing the board to decided whether or not disciplinary hearings would be heard in camera or with the media present. That change had followed Steve Waugh’s complaints that he was not allowed to publicly state his defence to an ICC charge he faced in the 2001 Boxing Day Test against South Africa for questioning Darrell Hair’s decision to give him run out without referring to the third umpire.Nevertheless, the major obstacle to public hearings would appear to be the Australian Cricketers’ Association, whose chief executive Paul Marsh is believed to be skeptical about the necessity of the concept.
