The series, beginning on November 26, has seven matches – four in Colombo, two in Pallekele and one in Hambantota. The reshuffle allows for a reserve day for the third ODI on December 3. With the north-east monsoon in mind, five matches have reserve days. Only the fourth and seventh ODIs do not have that provision. Both teams are coming off a break from international cricket. England lost their last assignment to India by a 3-1 margin in September. Sri Lanka would have fonder memories having beaten Pakistan 2-1 in a three match series in August. They had also got the better of England in England this summer, where the won the lone T20, took the ODI series 3-2 and played two nail-biting Tests to win 1-0.

No caso, o Colorado aplicou 4 a 0 no Novo Horizonte.

Injured Clarke could miss Brisbane Test

Australia are preparing for the possibility of being without captain Michael Clarke for the opening Test against India

Brydon Coverdale15-Nov-2014

It is still uncertain when Michael Clarke will recover from his hamstring problem•AFP

Australia are preparing for the possibility of being without captain Michael Clarke for the opening Test against India. Clarke re-injured his hamstring during Friday’s one-day win over South Africa in Perth and was due to have scans on Saturday, before returning to the east coast and seeing specialists in Sydney and Melbourne, leaving a few days of uncertainty before the full extent of his injury is known.Under normal circumstances, returning in time for a Test series would be Clarke’s sole focus but this summer the situation is complicated by the presence in the schedule of the World Cup in February and March. Australia’s coach Darren Lehmann said Clarke would have his eyes on the World Cup and that getting him fit in time for the first Test at the Gabba, which starts in less than three weeks, would be a serious challenge.”It’s tight isn’t it,” Lehmann said in Perth on Saturday. “But [we] have to see what comes up [in the] next few days.”Clarke has only once missed a Test through injury, when his chronic back problem ruled him out of the final Test of Australia’s disastrous tour of India in 2013. But given the repeated recurrences of his hamstring injury in the past few months it would not be at all surprising if Clarke was unable to get through four Tests against India this summer. The potential loss of their captain would leave Australia searching for a new leader and the logical candidate would be the vice-captain Brad Haddin, but his availability is also uncertain as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury. The selectors may yet have to decide whether to give the captaincy to a tried veteran like Shane Watson, a captaincy specialist like George Bailey, or a potential Clarke successor such as Steven Smith.”Brad’s tracking along pretty well,” Lehmann said. “I think he’ll play the Shield game [starting on November 25] but we’re in the lap of the medicos at the moment, but I’m pretty sure and pretty confident it’ll be fine.”Once we pick the side we’ll work out what happens from there really. We’ve got some younger guys that are in the frame, as many people have said. In the end it comes down to what the selection panel, the chairman of selectors and the board want as their captain as well, so we’re guided by them a bit.”In the longer term, Clarke’s injury could have a bearing on Australia’s World Cup campaign, which begins against England at the MCG on February 14. One-day vice-captain George Bailey will lead the side through the rest of the ongoing series against South Africa and might yet find himself a World Cup captain, and Lehmann said Australia could win the tournament even without Clarke.”The way we play anyway, it doesn’t matter who is in and out if that makes sense,” Lehmann said. “We play a certain way and the XI that are playing that time, they fill those roles. George will take over the reins and do a really good job for the rest of the one-day series.”I imagine he [Clarke] will want to be in the World Cup. So we’ve just got to get it diagnosed, work out what’s going on finally and get it right. That’s the big thing for us get him back playing cricket. First get him fit and healthy and then get him back to play.”In the immediate term, Bailey will captain Australia in the second ODI against South Africa at the WACA on Sunday, where they can take a 2-0 series lead having won the first match. Smith is expected to return to Australia’s line-up in a straight swap for Clarke, after being unlucky to miss out on selection for the opening game.

Defensivamente, o time era soberano.

SLC takes steps to weed out chuckers

Sri Lanka Cricket’s drive to eradicate chucking from its system has gained momentum, with the umpires and school coaches contributing to the cause immensely by identifying bowlers with suspect actions right from the Under-13 level

Sri Lanka Cricket’s drive to eradicate chucking from its system has gained momentum, with umpires and school coaches contributing to the cause immensely.SLC began their crusade by appointing former international umpire Tyron Wijewardene as their umpires’ educator in April, after Wijewardene had completed an ICC Coach the Coaches course in Nagpur. Wijewardene had officiated in four Tests, 52 ODIs and seven T20Is between 2001 and 2013.”Before the program was put in place, certain school coaches allowed bowlers to bowl as they pleased because they somehow wanted to win matches, even though they knew for certain that their actions were questionable,” Wijewardene explained. “But since we gave the green light to the umpires, there has been a severe awareness and all coaches know if there is a bowler with a suspect action, the umpires are going to report him.”When the program began, SLC reported around 25 bowlers with suspect actions in the Under-23 tournament. But after the board expanded their scope to more schools, namely in the Under-13, 15, 17 and 19 age groups, that figure has risen to more than 110.Wijewardene attributes this increase to the school coaches being made aware that unless they made an effort to correct the bowler’s suspect action, he could be reported or called at a match by the umpire and prevented from bowling.”Now there is a severe awareness program where even the coaches know what’s happening. They are worried about their bowlers and sometimes they call the district coaches to come and have a look at their bowlers. There is a positive response from the school coaches who also feel that this menace has to be eradicated.”Wijewardene cited an example where at an Under-13 tournament school match, six bowlers from a Colombo school were stopped from bowling by the umpire for chucking. As the school had no other bowlers to complete the scheduled number of overs – two bowlers had already completed their quota and the others could not bowl – the umpires had no option but to abandon the match. The most number of bowlers reported or called for chucking at a match prior to that incident was two from one school.Wijewardene said that the SLC took a serious view of eradicating chuckers from domestic and school cricket after Sri Lanka offspinner Sachithra Senanayake was reported by ICC officials during the team’s tour of England in May.”When one of our bowlers is reported internationally, it’s bad for our country,” he said. “It spurred SLC to curb down on suspect bowlers to ensure it won’t happen again in the future. Internationally this has become an issue so we thought we should do something.”Hashan Tillakaratne, now a national selector, told me that there were several bowlers with suspect actions bowling in school matches but the umpires were not doing anything. Since we gave the greenlight to the umpires, they are doing their job properly from Under-13 level upwards at all school and club tournaments played in Sri Lanka.”To create the awareness, Wijewardene and officials from the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) are going around the country to educate the coaches and masters-in-charge about the issue and the protocol that is to be followed should a bowler with a suspect action be identified.”Once a bowler is reported at school level, he can continue to play in the match but at the end of it the umpire has to hand over a copy of the suspect bowler’s action report to the master in charge or the coach of the school, and he should also get a second copy signed by the school master-in-charge or coach acknowledging receipt of the report. The report is then scanned and mailed to me. I will send it to the coaching department.”As there are too many matches in the Under-13 age group played around the country it is too much of a burden. As soon as I get the mailed report I refer it to the coaching department and the report is mailed to the respective district coach from where the school comes from, to check on the bowling.”Overall, there are 35 district coaches involved who are overlooking schools covering the entire country.”The program which is being conducted on a two-year trial basis has gone 100% and in a positive way,” Wijewardene said. “The positive aspect is that the coaches have taken it upon themselves the importance of remedying the actions of such bowlers. It’s a very good response from them and it is encouraging to note that they have taken a very serious view of it. We want to ensure that within the next two-three years, chuckers will be eradicated from our system.”

'I don't wish to be a hero' – Mahmudullah

Bangladesh allrounder Mahmudullah admitted that he doesn’t really like functioning as the protagonist, and that he was satisfied so long as he could keep contributing to the team

Mohammad Isam in Mirpur28-Nov-2014

Mahmudullah – “I try to contribute to the team, and it feels great if I can contribute to a win. I really wanted us to win today, and take the 4-0 lead”•AFP

It’s not every day that Bangladesh lead an ODI series 4-0, particularly in what has mostly been a dismal 2014 for them in the format. So after beating Zimbabwe by 21 runs on Friday, Mahmudullah was an elated man, especially as he was coming off a two-year struggle with the bat, the second of which sometimes mirrored the entire team’s plight. This was a day to rejoice.Mahmudulla’s unbeaten 82 was an important contribution for Bangladesh as he stood firm in the face of two batting collapses. He hauled the team out of the first quagmire with Mushfiqur Rahim, and later engineered another recovery in the company of Mashrafe Mortaza. Those two partnerships eventually paved the way for Bangladesh’s seventh straight victory across all formats. Mahmudullah himself, however, remained grounded.”I am not the hero and I don’t wish to be a hero,” he said with a smile. “I try to contribute to the team, and it feels great if I can contribute to a win. I really wanted us to win today, and take the 4-0 lead. I hope we can finish it 5-0.”Mahmudullah let Mushfiqur and Mortaza go on the attack, while he slowly accumulated runs at the other end. In between, he played his best shots – the drives with the extended follow-through, the well-placed cut shots and the wrist work, both off the front and back foot. This was the ninth time out of ten innings that he had an asterisk next to his half-century. His average when scoring a fifty is remarkable, but only three of those fifties have come in Bangladesh wins. The score was also his highest in ODIs, and his first fifty since his unbeaten 75 against Zimbabwe in March last year. That is 18 months without a fifty in one-day cricket, a period in which he has averaged 16.21 in 17 matches. There was constant debate about his continued position in the playing XI during this period, but even on the eve of the game, BCB president Nazmul Hassan named him and another player among those who would not be removed to make room for newer, younger players.Mahmudullah did not comment on the matter, but said that he was never the type to eye the protagonist’s role, rather he was someone who simply wished to contribute to the team in any way possible. Still, there was some regret that he did not get to three figures.”To be honest, I wanted to score the hundred. When we started the fifth-wicket partnership, Mushfiqur was the aggressor and I was playing the anchor role. I didn’t take many risks. Then Sabbir [Rahman] and [Abul Hasan] Raju got out so I wanted to be there till the end. I was planning to hit in the last two-three overs. I hope to do it next time.”Mahmudullah said that the match was an important lesson in coming back on top after two shocks to the system. Bangladesh slipped to 32 for 4 by the 13th over, and later lost three wickets in the space of 18 deliveries at another crucial stage, although they did recover well from both setbacks.”I am happy that we have won this game,” Mahmudullah said. “They had a good partnership but we got two quick wickets and returned to the game. We bowled very well in the second Powerplay. Mashrafe gave away just five runs in three overs and Shakib bowled well too.”We are learning. We started well in the second and third matches but we lost early wickets today. The wicket was a bit tricky. But then we had a big partnership, so I am hoping that against bigger teams, we can cope with these situations in a similar way.”
