Albian Ajeti is among the players who could leave Celtic during the January transfer window, according to The Daily Record’s Scott Burns. 

The lowdown

Celtic kicked off the window with three incomings in the form of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate, but it looks like Ange Postecoglou also intends to trim the excess from his Hoops squad this month.

Ajeti has made 17 appearances so far this season, but only three of those have been Premiership starts. Celtic paid £4.5million to sign this Swiss marksman from West Ham in August 2020, but he has only managed to score nine goals in his 48 outings since.

Burns wrote in The Daily Record that Celtic are ‘open to deals’ for Ajeti, Boli Bolingoli and Vassilis Barkas.

He added that Ismaila Soro ‘could also come into that equation’ after falling out of favour at Parkhead.

The verdict

If Celtic can offload all four players permanently, they could generate a healthy sum. Combine their Transfermarkt valuations – £1.35m each for Barkas and Bolingoli, £810,000 for Soro and £2.25m for Ajeti – and it comes to £5.76m.

That would put them comfortably in the black for January given that their J1 League triple swoop only cost them £2.06m overall.

Looking at it another way, it could finance the prospective permanent signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers from Tottenham Hotspur. Celtic have an option to buy the on-loan American for £6m, and Spurs may be willing to negotiate.

ويشير موقع “فوتبول إيطاليا” نقلاً عن “كالتشيو ميركاتو” إلى أن آرسنال لم ينس لوكاتيلي بعد فشله في التعاقد معه العام الماضي، وهم يخططون للعودة للاعب خط وسط يوفنتوس في فترتي الانتقال القادمتين، راغبين في إضافته إلى تشكيلة ميكيل أرتيتا.

لم يحظ لوكاتيلي بوقت إيجابي بشكل خاص في تورينو وقد أصيب هذا الموسم بتعب عضلي، مما زاد من مشاكله.

من المؤكد أن ماسيميليانو أليجري لم يساعد خلال “محادثته” سيئة السمعة الآن مع ماريو سكونسيرتي من كورييري ديلا سيرا.

وفي حديثه عن خط وسطه في يوفنتوس، قال أليجري: “تم التفكير في يوفنتوس بطريقة أخرى، حيث كان رابيو باريديس بوجبا في خط الوسط بالإضافة إلى لوكاتيلي كخيار أول للبدلاء”.

Tait delivered his quickest spell of the summer to remove key Bushrangers batsmen Brad Hodge, Cameron White, and David Hussey in his first two overs, and left Victoria reeling at 4 for 20 in pursuit of a mammoth 203.Tait’s Man-of-the-Match burst was supported by Mark Cleary, who claimed a wicket in each of his first two overs, to virtually kill off any chance Victoria had. The Bushrangers capitulated with six overs to go. Aaron Finch was the only shining light with 48 from 35 balls, but he was the first of Kieron Pollard’s two victims in the 14th over which confirmed the Redbacks’ win.Pollard provided some fireworks with the bat as well, striking a powerful half-century to help the hosts post an imposing total. He clubbed 52 from just 22 balls, including four enormous sixes.The Redbacks made very good use of a magnificent batting strip, after winning the toss, with Daniel Harris (48) and Graham Manou (21) setting the tone with an opening stand of 56 in 27 balls and from there on, the innings was a runaway train.To add insult to the injury dealt by Pollard’s pyrotechnics, Victoria dropped four catches and could not bowl their overs in the time required, which may result in them incurring the wrath of the match referee. The punishment may result in the loss of 0.5 of a competition point. Should that happen, their clash with the Warriors in Perth on Sunday will be all the more important, while South Australia can guarantee Champions League Twenty20 qualification if they can beat Tasmania next Tuesday.

A number of Liverpool fans believe that Thiago is still set to be ruled out for a lengthy period despite Jurgen Klopp insisting that the 30-year-old won’t miss the rest of the season through injury.

The Reds cruised into the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, beating Shrewsbury Town at Anfield after initially falling behind.

There was a mix of youth and experience on the pitch for Liverpool but Thiago was unavailable as he continues to recover from a hip problem.

The midfielder hasn’t featured since the 3-1 win at home to Newcastle United in mid-December, and there have been some claims that he would miss the rest of the campaign.

As stated by Paul Joyce on Twitter, Klopp has said the rumour isn’t true and that Thiago is now beginning rehab on his injury, claiming: “Neither March nor end of the season is in my mind.”

As usual, Elton Chigumbura shone for the home team with a swashbuckling half-century, but none of his team-mates came through with significant performances, and the Rhinos found several players whose combined efforts brought them success.Eagles, put in to bat, attacked the bowling with reckless abandon, and in retrospect this probably cost them the match. Doug Marillier looked in good form, but was run out through the frozen immobility of his partner, Forster Mutizwa, who hit a six and was then himself run out by a brilliant throw from Vusi Sibanda as Eagles slipped to 33 for 4.As he has done so often this season, Chigumbura rallied his side after the early setbacks shared a 57-run partnership of calm and steady batting with Greg Lamb before Lamb skied a catch to long off. Chigumbura reached his 50 with a six over long on off Darren Stevens, but was out next ball to a superb catch to become the first of Stevens’ four middle-order wickets as the innings ended on 140.Sibanda drove and cut the first and third balls of the Rhinos’ chase, from Chigumbura, to the boundary, as the score raced to 30 off three overs. His partner Riki Wessels was even more aggressive, and the pair put on 61 in eight overs before Wessels was run out going for a quick single. He was replaced by Brendan Taylor, who batted with equal power and confidence, the 100 coming up in the 12th over. Sibanda was run out with 31 runs needed to temporarily slow the scoring rate but Taylor and Stevens paced their batting well, until three were needed off the final over, bowled by Chigumbura. Tight bowling and fielding saw only two scored off four balls, but Stevens lofted the fifth with superb timing over the bowler’s head for six to clinch a rare victory over the strongest provincial side. Taylor was unbeaten with 45 off 30 balls, and a team effort in all three departments was fully evident for the victors.Matabeleland Tuskers followed a superb victory over the strong Mountaineers with a heavy defeat at the hands of Southern Rocks, supposedly the weakest team, in the second match of the day. Outstanding batting by Chamu Chibhabha and Sikandar Raza led the Rocks to a total of 166, and with Tuskers able to muster only 123 for 9 in reply, this means that after three days and six matches, each team has recorded one victory.The start of this match was delayed by just over 30 minutes due to a lunchtime shower, but fortunately it soon stopped – which does not always happen in Zimbabwe in February. The Rocks decided to bat on winning the toss and Chamu Chibhabha cut the first ball of the innings for four – the third successive time today the first ball of an innings had been hit to the boundary – and with his partner, the Pakistan-born Raza, even more aggressive, the Tuskers bowlers were soon on the receiving end of a hiding they did not expect to get.The 50 came up in the sixth over and the 100 – the first century partnership of the tournament – in the 11th. It was left to Sean Williams, the seventh bowler tried, to break the stand. He bowled Raza as the batsman went for a big hit, having scored 53 off 34 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes. Steve Tikolo scored 10 before holing out at long off, and Sean Ervine managed only a single before being caught at the wicket. Chibhabha batted through the innings for an unbeaten 82, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. Rocks looked a transformed team after ratcheting up a total of 166 for 4, but they still had the Blignaut factor to contend with.Tuskers had no choice but to launch their assault from the first ball, but they were soon reeling with the loss of Gavin Ewing, Mark Vermeulen and Charles Coventry for only 16 runs. Williams and Keith Dabengwa rallied the team, but neither are power hitters and after 10 overs the total was 57 for 3 – meaning the required rate was now 11 an over. Somebody needed to get out to bring in Blignaut – and Dabengwa obliged.Blignaut began steadily, but soon lost Williams, brilliantly caught by Chibhabha at backward point off Ervine for 39 off 38 balls. Ervine then struck the vital blow, causing Blignaut to play a slower ball on to his stumps for just 4. With 15 an over now needed, the result was all but sealed, and Tuskers eventually went down by 43 runs.

Craig Hope has revealed that Newcastle United are now eyeing up a move for Gleison Bremer in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Third signing pending…

With both Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood already through the door at St. James’ Park, it looks as if the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) consortium are now working on their third signing of the month.

Interestingly, Bremer shares the same agent as both players, and so there could be an easier route to signing him.

Nonetheless, with bringing in a new central defender the ‘priority’ for the new owners, this is certainly a deal to keep an eye on as the days progress – the Magpies have the second-worst defensive record in the league.

The Latest: Bremer eyed

As per Hope, the North East club are now eyeing Bremer as their potential new centre-back, but The Daily Mail journalist has warned that he may be ‘expensive’:

“Another name to add to list of centre-back options… Torino’s Gleison Bremer.

“Seems like another expensive one but I’m told NUFC have taken a look at 24-yr-old Brazilian.”

The Verdict: No-brainer

Bringing in Bremer would be a no-brainer, as he would immediately be an upgrade on their current options.

He is currently averaging more tackles and interceptions and completed passes at a higher success rate than Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar and Jamaal Lascelles in their respective domestic leagues so far this season (WhoScored), and so would instantly slot into Eddie Howe’s side.

Described as ‘powerful’ by Serie A expert Conor Clancy, the six-foot-two Brazilian is a beast, and at 24 years of age, he will only get better.

Nonetheless, the Magpies should look no further if they want to sign a solid centre-back for the second half of the campaign.
