Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb claimed that the Spurs sporting director could launch a bid to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, on whom his former club Juventus are also keen.

It’s thought that the north London outfit are capable of offering more money than the Serie A giants in what could be a double move that also includes Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Both would cost around €105m (£88.5m) combined.

Winks upgrade

Midfield reinforcements could sit quite highly amongst Nuno Santo’s priority list, particularly as it seems as if Harry Winks will look to move on from his boyhood club, having struggled to break into the starting XI once again this campaign.

The Times believe that the Englishman is looking for a loan move this January, so a berth in the engine room could become available, and that should be filled by Tchouameni if Spurs have any sense.

Aged just 21, the Monaco powerhouse is a real star of the future and could help Paratici form a scary-looking midfield in north London for years to come.

Just imagine him, Oliver Skipp, Bryan Gil and Pape Matar Sarr in a few seasons’ time – all of whom are currently 21 years old or under.

Tchouameni is something of a box-to-box workhorse, having averaged 2.9 tackles, 2.1 interceptions, 1.9 shots and 1.2 dribbles per Ligue 1 outing so far this campaign, via WhoScored.

That shows his capability in his team’s own half, often being there to thwart the opposition, and then also in the final third, where he can drive the ball forward with his physical presence to also provide an additional threat on goal.

It’s no wonder he has previously been branded a “complete midfield player” by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas on Twitter.

“He’s not a boy; he’s a man. It’s a pleasure to play next to him; he provides a lot, plenty of energy, technical quality and extraordinary physicality,” compatriot Paul Pogba added.

Having already picked up five caps for France, who are blessed with midfield options, Spurs must ensure they are the team to secure the £26m-rated beast in 2022.

Tchouameni would be a welcome upgrade on Winks, that’s for sure.

Richard Hadlee, the former New Zealand allrounder, has signed up with the American Premier League (APL) as an executive consultant.The APL, as exclusively revealed by Cricinfo, is a six-team Twenty20 tournament that is to be held in October on a converted baseball field in Staten Island, New York City. Hadlee has been contracted for four events to run until 2011.”As an ambassador and executive consultant of the APL, I am delighted to be involved with this event,” Hadlee said. “The APL… brings a different format of the game to the USA – namely Twenty20 – with top-class players from around the world participating. This should be the best possible way in which to sell cricket to America’s sport-loving people.”The tournament is promoted by Jay Mir, the president and CEO of American Sports And Entertainment Group Inc, who wants to raise six sides using the IPL’s model of franchises and auctions. When West Bromwich Albion signed Conor Townsend for £750k back in 2018, it would have been safe to assume that the left-back was brought to The Hawthorns as back up to the England international, Kieran Gibbs.

Townsend’s usurping of the 32-year-old was complete last season, when, despite the Baggies’ ultimate relegation from the top flight, the 28-year-old highly impressed over his 25 Premier League appearances – helping his side keep five clean sheets, registering two assists and earning a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.86. Meanwhile, Gibbs averaged an extremely disappointing SofaScore match rating of 6.53 over his ten top-flight fixtures – before being released on a free transfer at the end of the season.

This term, the former Scunthorpe man has ensured that his reputation as a first-class left-back has continued to grow, having already helped his side keep five clean sheets, registered two assists and created three big chances over his 12 Championship appearances – with these returns seeing the defender average a SofaScore match rating of 7.01.

Furthermore, the player who Thierry Henry once dubbed “amazing” has also seen his Transfermarkt value rocket from £180k at the time of his signing to £1.8m today – a 10x increase – which, coupled with his ever-improving level of performance, proves that West Brom struck gold when signing the 28-year-old.

Sri Lanka women enter the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 as underdogs, and have more concerns than they did when they participated in the Women’s World Cup in Australia, where they failed to get past the first stage. They take on Pakistan women in their first game in Taunton on June 12 – a contest that can be termed a grudge battle.Sri Lanka’s 57-run defeat to Pakistan in the World Cup in Canberra cost them a place in the Super Six. For a large part, Sri Lanka had only themselves to blame for that stunning loss because they allowed Pakistan off the hook with some indisciplined bowling, conceding 18 wides. They faltered in their batting too, with three batsmen succumbing to run-outs.”Despite our disappointing performances in the Women’s World Cup, the morale of the girls is very high. They are very keen to make amends when they meet Pakistan again in the Twenty20 version. Particularly in England, where players tend to take up the sport at the age of 13.”So they are far ahead of us,” Mendis said. “Our girls start their careers from club level at the age of about 19-20 years which is a distinct disadvantage. Even our club standard is very low compared to other countries. We need to organise more tournaments for our girls to raise their standard. We must start playing at least softball cricket at school level.”Mendis is in his second year as the national coach of the women’s team, and his contract expires in December.

Lots of West Brom fans have been left raging as some early team news emerged ahead of their game away at Fulham in the EFL Championship on Saturday.

As per The Express & Star and WBA journalist Joseph Masi, following on from Valerien Ismael’s latest pre-game press conference, it is ‘likely’ that Jake Livermore will start the match against Marco Silva’s team, even though the manager was ‘delighted’ with both Robert Snodgrass and Jayson Molumby after their performances against Bristol City.

Molumby won eight of his duels in that game, the joint-most out of any Albion player, and also successfully completed all of his dribble attempts, while Snodgrass made two key passes and had 68 touches of the ball in total, the most out of any player on the pitch (SofaScore).

Thus, it would be very harsh to drop either of them, especially for a player in Livermore who has recorded no goals and just one assist in 13 appearances in the league so far this season (Transfermarkt).
