Arsenal received a massive blow having missed out on the opportunity to recruit profit-turning wiz Monchi, who opted to return to his former club Sevilla after leaving Roma last month – but they may still land a Crystal Palace starlet.

Monchi would have been perfect for Arsenal given his ability to work within a budget – which is something the north London club seems intent on doing at the moment.

Indeed, in his time as a Sporting Director, the former Sevilla goalkeeper has recruited the likes of Dani Alves, Ivan Rakitic, and Julio Baptista for relative peanuts before shipping them off for huge profit.

But it is not all doom and gloom.

According to the Sun¸ the Gunners are preparing a huge bid for Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, who is rated £40 million by his current employers.

The young Englishman has been incredibly impressive since making the switch from his native right-wing position into right-back, and his performances have earned the interest from the biggest clubs in the country.

If reports are correct, and some might hope they are not, Emery is set to offer either one of Reiss Nelson or Ainsley Maitland-Niles as part exchanges to traverse Arsenal’s financial limitations and sweeten the deal.

Nelson is the most likely candidate having already spent the majority of the current campaign on loan representing Bundesliga side Hoffenheim scoring an impressive six goals in 18 league appearances.

Though Crystal Palace may not be interested in another forward and will likely prefer to take utility man Maitland-Niles if they are to even entertain the possibility of losing their star defender in the next window.

The young Englishman has been in sensational form at right-back and definitely carries enough quality to make the fluid switch into any Premier League side.

Likewise, Wan-Bissaka would transition into Arsenal’s squad well – both staunch in defence and incredibly gifted in attack, there is no doubt he would be the perfect fit for Emery’s brand of football.

كشف الجهاز الطبي للنادي الأهلي، عن جحم إصابة محمد الشناوي حارس الفريق، التي تعرض لها خلال مباراة المقاولون أمس، وذلك بعد الخضوع إلى آشعة اليوم الإثنين.

وأوضح سيد عبد الحفيظ مدير الكرة بالنادي، أن الجهاز الطبي حدد برنامجا تأهيليا واستشفائيا خاصا للاعب لتجهيزه لمباراة الذهاب أمام الوداد المغربي.

وأشار مدير الكرة إلى أن اللاعب سيؤدي جلسات علاج طبيعي لعدة أيام قبل أن ينتظم في برنامج بدني دون التسرع في عودته، وذلك لضمان تجهيزه وشفائه من الإصابة بأفضل حال قبل لقاء الوداد المغربي.

ويستعد الأهلي لمواجهة فريق انبي في الجولة الـ32 من مسابقة الدوري المصري الممتاز والمحدد لها الثامنة مساء الأربعاء المقبل.

Nottingham Forest supporters have been begging for Arvin Appiah to play a bigger part in the first team picture after his England U19s call up.

Following the announcement that he’d join up with the England U19 squad, fans of the Reds were quick to plead that he should now be getting more minutes in Forest’s side, displaying a strong show of faith in the youngster.

Certain fans have been calling for him to actually get a start in the team, but there are split opinions with some thinking he should settle for a place on the bench for the time being.

However, there seems to be some agreement that it is about time he was included in Martin O’Neill’s immediate plans.

One fan gave specific reasoning behind why the 18-year-old deserves more minutes, suggesting that with a lack of pace in the side he could have a real impact on the squad. That comes following their defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

The forward has been hotly tipped by the club and recently signed a new long term deal with Forest. In February he was also named among FourFourTwo’s 50 most exciting English teenage footballers.

England will be hoping to seal their place at the U19 Euro finals when they meet Denmark, Greece and Czech Republic this month.

Here’s how supporters reacted to Appiah’s news.

Former Wednesday manager, Gary Megson, has praised the impact Steve Bruce has had at Hillsborough, but questions whether he will be given the tools to take the Owls forward in the months and years ahead.

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, the ex-Wednesday boss claimed the club are “still not geared for going forward” and “change has got to happen off the pitch” for the club to be successful.

He said: “There’s got to be a big change. It needed changing when I was here, and there’s no point bringing in a good manager and not letting him manage.

“So the change has not only got to happen on the pitch – that has already happened with Jos [Luhukav] leaving and Steve coming in.

“The change has got to happen off the pitch as well. I’m not on about money, but in terms of getting the structure right for the football club to go forward because it’s not.

This place is still not geared for going forward yet, but Steve will know that because of where he’s worked in the past.

“It needs a real good sweep through and in Steve they’ve got the right person to do it but if they don’t listen to him then there’s no point having him here.”

We think that the job Bruce has done has been nothing short of miraculous, and it would seem naive to assume a manager of his calibre did not have assurances regarding his input on the direction of the club going forward.

Megson’s comments are unhelpful, and at a time of such positivity at Wednesday, it is not likely to go down too well within the walls of the Hillsborough offices and boardroom.

With the club needing the board, manager, players and fans all pulling in the same direction, in light of their unforeseen play-off tilt, Megson’s intervention seems untimely in the extreme.

Although, he does go on to say that they have as good a chance to reach the play-offs as some of their rivals, so his comments regarding the general structure of the club may have been more clumsy than deliberate.

كشفت تقارير صحفية إنجليزية أن مدرب توتنهام السابق ماوريسيو بوتشيتينو مرشح لخلافة بيب جوارديولا، في مانشستر سيتي، حال رحيله.

ومن المقرر أن ينتهي العقد الحالي للمدرب الإسباني مع السكاي بلو في عام 2021.

ولم يتوصل بيب جوارديولا إلى أي اتفاق مع مسؤولي مانشستر سيتي بشأن تجديد عقده، وهو ما أدى إلى انتشار التكهنات حول مستقبله.

وأكد أحد مسؤولي مانشستر سيتي أمس أنهم يأملون تجديد عقد جوارديولا، ولكنهم في الوقت ذاته سيبحثون عن بديله المناسب حال رحيله (لمطالعة التفاصيل من هنا).

وحسب صحيفة “ميرور” الإنجليزية، فإن مانشستر سيتي ينافس جاره مانشستر يونايتد على التعاقد مع ماوريسيو بوتشيتينو الذي أصبح بلا عمل منذ إقالته من قِبل توتنهام في نوفمبر الماضي.

وأوضحت أن المدرب الأرجنتيني لديه معجبين بالفعل في مانشستر سيتي، في الوقت الذي مازال فيه مستقبل جوارديولا موضوعًا للنقاش على الطاولة.

وأشارت إلى أن مانشستر سيتي ينظر إلى بوتشيتينو على أنه البديل المناسب لـ جوارديولا، خاصة أن الأخير لم يُظهر أي دليل حتى وقتنا هذا على رغبته في تجديد عقده.

ووصل بيب إلى موسمه الخامس مع مانشستر سيتي، متخطيًا بذلك الفترة التي قضاها مع برشلونة وبايرن ميونخ، بواقع أربع سنوات لكلًا منهما.

At any other club, a manager producing the results Bowyer has done would surely have been offered a new deal ages ago; things don’t work that way at Charlton, not with Roland Duchatelet at the helm.

The Belgian’s way of running things is bizarre to say the least – Bowyer and his team could achieve automatic promotion and there still be no certainty ahead of next season that the boss or half the players would be there still.

Clearly, Bowyer feels that he has earned a new deal and is confident that he will be penning it in the coming weeks – this should come as a huge relief to the Addicks faithful, who have surely been on tenterhooks as we near the end of the campaign – although he isn’t counting his chickens just yet.

It has been a season to forget if you are a Huddersfield Town supporter.

A total of 24 defeats from 32 games in the Premier League has resulted in the Terriers being relegated from the top-flight in record-equalling time. Just three victories all year has left the club’s fans with very little to cheer about yet this could be about to change.

Following impressive showings for the club’s youth sides which saw him score nine goals in 30 appearances, Aaron Rowe was given the chance to demonstrate his talents for the first team last month as he made his senior debut against AFC Bournemouth.

The midfielder, who can operate either just behind the striker or as a winger showed promising signs for the Terriers and was handed his first start against West Ham United on March 16th. Although his side would go on to lose the game 4-3, Rowe delivered another solid individual performance which would have excited the club’s supporters.

With Huddersfield’s drop to the second tier confirmed by last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace, there is no reason why boss Jan Siewert shouldn’t continue to hand the teenager more chances to show just what he is capable of in the club’s final six fixtures of the season. If Rowe continues to develop as a result of playing against the best that the Premier League has to offer, he could become a vital player for the Terriers over the coming years which may even force his German boss to build a squad around him.

Whereas it is naive to suggest that the 18-year-old’s future depends on what he is able to deliver for his club over the next two months, a promising end to the campaign may force Huddersfield to reconsider their transfer policy in the summer.

With a number of players emerging from their academy this season, the Terriers will be hoping that they can usher in a new generation of homegrown talents that can represent them in the Championship and therefore follow in the footsteps of Philip Billing and Tommy Smith who have both established themselves as first-team regulars in recent years.
