Punjab Cricket Association officials Pandove, Walia debarred from cricket administration for life

Ruling states that they had “in order to help the MCA misused their position and power in the PCA to provide undue favour to MCA”

Former BCCI treasurer MP Pandove and senior Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) functionary GS Walia have been debarred from cricket administration for life for their involvement in a case related to the Mohali Cricket Association (MCA), a ruling by Justice (retd) HS Bhalla, the ombudsman-cum-ethics officer of the PCA, on Wednesday said.”They are debarred for life from involvement with the game of cricket,” Justice Bhalla said in his order dated April 11. “[…] it appears that the respondents No. 1 and 2 (Walia and Pandove) in order to help the MCA misused their position and power in the PCA to provide undue favour to MCA.”They released funds of the PCA to the MCA, fully knowing that MCA is not affiliated with the PCA and, moreover, even the registration of the MCA is under challenge before the Hon’ble Punjab and Haryana High Court.”The District Cricket Association Mohali (DCAM) had filed a complaint against Walia and Pandove through a person named Gagandeep Singh Dhaliwal in 2021, and an investigation was initiated following the complaint.Responding to the ruling, Walia said, “I have received the order and I will comment after consulting my legal counsel.”The complainant had pleaded that the MCA, through these respondents, had allegedly misappropriated and embezzled the funds of PCA that were released to the MCA [the third respondents in the case] against the rules “in spite of the fact that the PCA has not recognised them and no affiliation certificate has been issued by the PCA”.The complainant had also pleaded that in case any affiliation certificate had been issued by the PCA, the same was liable to be cancelled.Walia and Pandove had denied averments in the complaint and had put out a plea that MCA had been using facilities such as a playground, office and washrooms at the stadium of the PCA. They added that funds were also released to them and that they fulfilled all the requirements. They also stated that it was not the DCAM but their association, MCA, which was liable to be recognised – the MCA has indeed been recognised – and that is why they participated in the inter-district cricket tournament conducted by the PCA and the prize money was also released to the winners and runners-up.They pleaded that all the allegations levelled against them by DCAM were false and frivolous and the complaint was liable to be dismissed.

FALTOU PONTARIA

O Sport voltou tendo as melhores chances no segundo tempo.

Danielzinho, Kady, Wescley e Lucas Franco bateram bem e sacramentaram a classificação do Carcará.

Former Australia allrounder involved in fatal accident in Northern Queensland

Andrew Symonds, the former Australian allrounder who played in 26 Tests and 198 ODIs in an international career spanning from 1998 through 2009, has died in a car accident in Queensland.Symonds was 46 and was involved in an accident outside Townsville where he lived in retirement.Related

'An extraordinary player and even better human being'

Seven innings that defined Andrew Symonds' career

'This really hurts'

In a statement, Queensland police said: “Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash in Hervey Range, around 50 kilometres from Townsville that’s taken the life of a 46-year-old man last night.”Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled.”Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries.”Symonds was a two-time World Cup winner during both of Australia’s undefeated title runs in 2003 and 2007 as well as a key member of the Test side in the mid-2000s. His death is the third one of an Australian cricketer in 2022, following the passing of Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh in the first week of March. “Australian cricket has lost another of its very best,” Cricket Australia chairman Lachlan Henderson said. “Andrew was a generational talent who was instrumental in Australia’s success at World Cups and as part of Queensland’s rich cricket history.”He was a cult figure to many who was treasured by his fans and friends. On behalf of Australian cricket our deepest sympathies are with Andrew’s family, team-mates, and friends.”Queensland Cricket chair Chris Simpson, who played alongside Symonds at domestic level, said: “On behalf of Queensland Cricket, we express our deepest sympathies to his family and will do whatever we can to assist them”It is a shattering loss to those nearest to him, and his wide circle of friends which extend to all corners of the cricketing world.””His untimely passing will also resonate deeply with the many fans who thrilled to his efforts with bat, ball and in the field. He stood out for his skill, courage and determination, and the fans who saw him at his best will never forget his impact on a game.””We are all hurting and will miss him greatly. His former teammates will remember his loyalty to the playing group and recall the fun times with great fondness, and sorrow that he is gone.”Symonds was the ultimate allrounder – a fearsome striker of a cricket ball, a bowler capable of brisk medium pace and offspin plus one of the greatest fielders in the game.Born in Birmingham, he could have played for England but turned down a call-up to the England A team in 1995. His first Australia selection, to the ODI side, came in 1998 but for a long time it appeared he would not make the most of his huge talent. That changed in spectacular fashion in Australia’s opening match of the 2003 World Cup when he walked in with Australia 86 for 4 against Pakistan and crunched 143 off 125 balls. He would go on to make five more ODI hundreds. His Test debut came in 2004 and while there were a couple of half-centuries in the early matches, it was the Boxing Day Test against England in 2006-07 that provided the breakthrough when he made a blistering 156.He scored a career-best 162 against India at Sydney in 2008 in a match that would also become one of his most controversial moments of his career when he was involved in the lengthy race row with Harbhajan Singh.Off-field issues were never too far away for Symonds. In 2005 he was suspended, turning up drunk ahead of what became Australia’s historic loss to Bangladesh at Cardiff and his international career was brought to a close by further run-ins including going fishing in Darwin when he should have been at a team meeting in 2008. A breaking of team drinking rules led to his exit from the squad in England on the eve of the 2009 T20 World Cup and his Cricket Australia contract was soon cancelled. With his career having met the start of the T20 era – he struck a 34-ball hundred for Kent in 2004 and earned USD1.35 million at the first IPL auction in 2008 – he became a traveling T20 player with spells at Queensland, Deccan Chargers and Surrey before retiring in 2012. He later moved into the media and was a regular in the commentary box in Australia. At Kent, where Symonds played 49 first-class matches, 62 List A games and ten T20s between 1999 and 2004, he was voted the Spitfires’ greatest overseas player in 2020.Simon Philip, the Kent Cricket chair, said in a statement, “Andrew Symonds remains one of the most popular Kent players of the modern era. He contributed greatly to the Club across all three formats and his rare talent left many extraordinary memories with those who saw him play.”David Fulton, who skippered Symonds during his time at Kent, said, “He was a brilliant, combative cricketer who could win a game with bat, ball, in the field or with his sheer will to win and presence on the field. Simply, a fantastic teammate.”

Tottenham eye Real Madrid target as "incredible" Levy call gifts Spurs advantage

Tottenham Hotspur and European champions Real Madrid are both “really” keen on signing a player next year, but manager Ange Postecoglou’s side actually hold a key advantage in the race for his signature, thanks to an “incredible” decision from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Tottenham could reinforce squad with January signings

The Lilywhites have been dealt a plague of injury problems over the last few weeks, which has threatened to derail their hopes of both winning silverware and finishing in the Premier League top four.

Number one goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert won’t be returning until after the new year, while Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Ben Davies have also been sidelined – leaving Postecoglou with precious few defensive selections.

The Australian’s currently forced to partner Radu Dragusin – their only natural, senior centre-back option – with teenage summer signing Archie Gray at the heart of his backline, as the latter attempts to play a very unfamiliar role to the best of his ability.

As a result of their severe shortage in some areas of the squad, Postecoglou has hinted that January signings are a very real possibility for Spurs, but technical director Johan Lange won’t be rushed into any panic buying either.

“We’re in all the competitions, it’s not like our schedule’s going to ease up at any stage,” said Postecoglou on the winter transfer window at Spurs.

“So I think it makes sense. We will try and reinforce where and what number we’ll have to wait and see.

“You don’t just want to panic and bring in anybody that you don’t think will help our cause in the back half of the year, but I think we’ve already shown we are pretty methodical and prudent about our work. We’ll make sure we’ll bring somebody in who is going to help us.”

Alongside January, Lange and Levy have been busy in their planning for the summer window as well.

Last summer, as part of a deal to sell Giovani Lo Celso to Real Betis, Spurs successfully negotiated both a first-option to buy midfielder Johnny Cardoso for around £26 million and a sell-on fee – if the USA international moves elsewhere.

Levy was specifically praised for this “incredible” deal by former England keeper Paul Robinson, with an update now coming to light on Cardoso’s future, courtesy of Diario de Sevilla.

Tottenham and Real Madrid "really" want Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso

The Spanish newspaper, via Sport Witness, claims that Tottenham are “really” interested in taking up their first-refusal option to sign Cardoso – but they aren’t the only side extremely keen on him.

Indeed, La Liga giants Real Madrid are also believed to be seriously fond of the 23-year-old, with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and an unnamed La Liga side also billed as serious suitors for Cardoso.

Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso

However, Betis are reportedly “convinced” that Cardoso is set to join Tottenham next year, according to other media sources, so this could be one to keep an eye on.

While Tottenham’s first-option clause isn’t active until June, it gives them a key advantage over Real and Cardoso’s legion of other interested teams for next summer – and verdicts on the midfielder suggest he could be worth a punt.

They’re in a win-win situation at Tottenham,” said pundit Robinson to Football Insider in November, who described the option to buy deal made by Levy as “incredible”.

“You either get a top player in great form, who’s almost doubled his value over the last six months, or they get a share when he’s sold for a fortune. It’s very much a Daniel Levy deal. It’s incredible. They get first dibs on a player, and if he doesn’t sign for them, they get a percentage of his sale.

“He’s still only 23, got 17 caps for the USA, and he’s got room to get better.

“He’s been playing very well for Betis this season, and he’s clearly a good player.”

Chelsea hold talks with £203k-per-week forward’s camp over January transfer

Chelsea have held talks with a forward’s camp over the possibility of a January transfer, as the player’s representatives look to secure him a move to the Premier League this month.

Chelsea end 2024 with dip in form as January window opens

Enzo Maresca’s side are set to end 2024 on a slightly downward trajectory in terms of form, having lost their last two league games against Fulham and Ipswich Town, but it has been an excellent conclusion to the year overall when looking at the bigger picture.

Only Liverpool and Tottenham have scored more goals in the top flight than Chelsea so far this campaign, and before their defeat to Fulham, they hadn’t lost a single Premier League game since late October.

Following Chelsea’s defeat to Ipswich, Maresca suggested that their slight slump in form this last fortnight has been down to general fatigue.

“I like to analyse game by game. I think tonight, when you create so many chances, you can probably do something better defensively but offensively, it’s not many things to say,” said Maresca after Chelsea’s loss at Ipswich.

“The Fulham game, I don’t think we played in the way we like to play; it was more up and down and that is not our football.

“Everton is a difficult game for everyone. We tried to win the game. Probably, also, December I think we played nine games. We started with the first five or six winning all the games but then we struggle a little bit finishing [the month].

“We probably also arrive at the end of the month feeling a little bit tired in general. We have finished the first part of the season, we are going to start the second part. We are happy with where we are but we know we can do many things better.”

Maresca already has real strength in depth, which has allowed them to operate with an ‘A’ and ‘B’ team across all competitions this season, but it is believed Chelsea could still be active in January.

Chelsea hold talks with Randal Kolo Muani's camp ahead of January

According to The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani and his team have approached the Stamford Bridge side over a potential winter move.

The £203,000-per-week France international has been told he’s free to depart by manager Luis Enrique, and Kolo Muani’s camp have held talks with Chelsea ahead of January, alongside other Premier League sides.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt star favours a move to England above all, and his camp are working to secure him a winter switch to the division. As things stand, it is thought that a loan move is the most likely scenario for him, even if PSG would prefer a permanent deal.

Brett D'Oliveira, Ed Barnard guide Worcestershire towards stalemate

Centuries in big stand continue familiar theme in run-soaked contest

Worcestershire 431 for 6 (Barnard 116*, D’Oliveira 100, Haynes 68, Raine 4-64) trail Durham 672 for 7 dec (Ravindra 217, Raine 103*, Coughlin 100*, Borthwick 96, Bushnell 66) by 211 runsBrett D’Oliveira and Ed Barnard scored centuries to bat Worcestershire back into their LV= Insurance County Championship Division Two match against Durham at Seat Unique Riverside.D’Oliveira and Barnard shared a stand worth 197 for the sixth wicket to defy the home side, who were forced to toil in the field claiming only three wickets from the 96 overs. The Worcestershire skipper fell shortly after reaching three figures, but Barnard remained unbeaten at the close on 116, although the Pears still trail Durham by 211 runs with four first-innings wickets remaining.Ben Raine was once again the pick of the Durham bowlers, striking twice on a placid pitch, but the North-East outfit’s hopes of securing their second Championship win of the season appear to be slim heading into the final day of the contest.Worcestershire resumed their innings on 140 for three, still 502 runs behind the hosts. Nightwatch Charlie Morris was the first man out as Raine notched his third wicket when Scott Borthwick claimed his second catch of the game at second slip. Haynes was undeterred at the other end and passed fifty for the fourth time this term with a sublime cover drive off Paul Coughlin. He and D’Oliveira worked the gaps in the field in their stand worth 61 for the fifth wicket before Liam Trevaskis made the breakthrough. Haynes’ 100% conversion rate in the 2022 campaign came to an end when he edged the left-arm spinner behind for 68, presenting the hosts with an opening into the Worcestershire lower order. However, the visitors regained their footing with D’Oliveira and Barnard at the crease with a dominant stand for the sixth wicket. D’Oliveira was patient in his approach as he reached his half-century from 137 balls, while Barnard went about his business with a faster tempo, reaching his fifty with a sublime straight drive down the ground against Matt Salisbury. The Durham bowlers kept toiling, but chances were few and far between due to the flat wicket and impressive batting from the Worcestershire duo.Barnard and D’Oliveira passed Worcestershire’s highest partnership for the sixth wicket against Durham, surging through the 117 set by Steve Davies and David Wheeldon in 2009 at New Road. Both players were comfortable against both pace and spin, whittling down Durham’s advantage and securing four batting points in the process for the Pears.D’Oliveira’s grit was rewarded with his third century of the season from his 249th delivery, but he fell soon after reaching the milestone lbw to Raine, ending a partnership worth 197 with Barnard. Despite his achievement, the Worcestershire captain appeared frustrated after his dismissal, punching his bat before walking to the pavilion.Barnard pressed on to his second hundred of 2022, and fourth in first-class cricket working Borthwick into the off-side to earn a deserved ovation from the crowd and team-mates on the Riverside balcony. He ended the day unbeaten alongside Gareth Roderick, although the visitors still need a further 61 to avoid the follow-on.
