Presenter Joe Thomlinson has suggested that Julen Lopetegui should bring Rayan Ait-Nouri back into the Wolverhampton Wanderers starting lineup whilst Jonny Otto is suspended.

What's going on with Ait-Nouri?

The Algerian left-back has made 26 appearances this season, but has not started any of Wolves' last six league matches.

Jonny picked up a red card in their defeat to Leeds United and faces a suspension, and there is now hope that the 21-year-old will be selected to replace the Spaniard.

Speaking on Football Daily's YouTube channel, Thomlinson praised Ait-Nouri's talent by labelling him Wolves' best under-21 product, and is excited to see him potentially return to the starting lineup.

He said: "Rayan Ait-Nouri is really highly rated. Manchester City were looking at this guy as a potential left-back option last season amongst Marc Cucurella, and I think we should have seen more.

"We haven't really seen an awful lot of him under Julen Lopetegui, have we, which is a little bit of a surprise, but I think it's two or three starts under Lopetegui in the Premier League – he's obviously preferred Jonny, who is a little bit more solid in that position.

"Now, Jonny is banned – hopefully, we get to see a little bit more of Rayan Ait-Nouri, because I think he's an extremely highly talented player."

Should Ait-Nouri play more?

The £10k-per-week wonderkid has already made 77 appearances for the club since joining from Angers in 2020, despite having to compete with Jonny and Hugo Bueno.

His dribbling particularly stands out, ranking in the top 1% of fullbacks for successful take-ons in Europe's top competitions over the past year as per FBref, whilst he also ranks highly for tackles and goals.

The stats suggest he is developing into a left-back who is strong on the ball and dangerous going forward, and this might be what attracted Manchester City last summer.

However, Jonny's selection over him may be due to his senior's defensive abilities. Ait-Nouri ranks in the bottom 1% of full-backs for blocks – a statistic where Jonny ranks in the top 6%. This stark difference may be what makes Jonny a more reliable pick for Lopetegui, and Ait-Nouri now has to wait for his chance.

The Spaniard's suspension should mean Ait-Nouri slots straight into the side, and if he performs well, he could yet retain a regular starting spot ahead of the 29-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur have 'explored' making a move for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany as Spurs weigh up replacements for Antonio Conte, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Belgian has been mentioned as a fairly new target by the press in recent weeks, with a report by The Sun even recently stating that he is one of the favourites.

Kompany's name is just one of many to have been linked with a move to Spurs as quartet Mauricio Pochettino, Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Zinedine Zidane stand out as the most elite options.

Of course, there will be much competition to appoint the aforementioned quartet, especially considering Chelsea are now also on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Graham Potter. There have also been murmurs that Carlo Ancelotti could leave Real Madrid, potentially opening up yet another job for the likes of Pochettino and Nagelsmann.

That could come as a worry for Spurs with more left-field options like Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton) and Fulham boss Marco Silva are also attracting chairman Daniel Levy's interest. Indeed, Kompany may well also fit into the mould of a solid candidate close to home.

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling came in for criticism during the club's 5-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League this afternoon.

Liverpool have 'confidence' they can land Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer, says CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

What's the latest transfer news involving Mason Mount?

As per Football Insider, Newcastle United expect Liverpool to pip them in the summer transfer window and beat them to the signing of Mount.

The same outlet also state that a contract for the 24-year-old to join Liverpool has been 'prepared and approved' as Jurgen Klopp eyes making a marquee addition to his midfield in the forthcoming off-season.

Nevertheless, The Evening Standard have reported that Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has resumed negotiations with Mount over him signing a new agreement at Stamford Bridge following months of deadlock.

Boehly has asked the England international to agree to a one or two-year deal to extend his current terms that run out in 2024. At the same time, Chelsea are believed to value Mount at around £70 million in an attempt to ward off keen suitors, including Liverpool alongside Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester City.

CBS Sports journalist Jacobs thinks that Liverpool have a good chance of bringing Mount to Anfield this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs said: "Liverpool will push there. He's definitely one of the big priorities and there is a confidence at Liverpool's end that they can get Mount for a bargain due to the contract winding down.

"Now we have to wait and see whether Chelsea's new manager impacts anything and what Chelsea do, in response to firm interest, to try and keep the player because, even though he hasn't had his best season, Chelsea still don't want to lose Mount. But obviously, they're not going to go beyond the summer if he doesn't sign a contract and risk not taking the fee."

Would Mason Mount be a good signing for Liverpool?

He'd certainly add some fresh ideas to the Reds' ageing midfield and could be the ideal foil for Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez in attack.

The 24-year-old has excelled compared to his positional peers in the art of shots on goal, having had 2.41 per 90 minutes over the last 365 days, meaning he ranks in the top 3% for this metric against other midfielders in Europe's top five divisions (via FBref).

In total, Mount has made 35 appearances for Chelsea this season in all competitions, notching three goals and six assists, as per Transfermarkt.

Evidently, Mount has flickered in and out of periods of inconsistency in 2022/23; however, he still produces a lot of useful output from the middle of the park and could excel under Klopp if the German coach entices the midfielder to swap west London for Merseyside in the summer.

Todd Boehly is edging closer to appointing Mauricio Pochettino as the new Chelsea manager following the sacking of Graham Potter a few weeks ago, and he will be hoping it ushers in a new era for the club.

Sky Sports claims that the former Tottenham Hotspur manager could be formally announced as soon as next week, and this could allow him a few weeks to assess his squad before a crucial pre-season.

He could also be eyeing up a dream first signing by the looks of it, with Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane recently linked with a surprise move to the Stamford Bridge side, according to Football Insider.

The former Liverpool player hasn’t enjoyed the best debut campaign in Germany, and with the move turning sour, Chelsea could potentially lure him back to the Premier League, with Bayern looking to recoup the majority, if not all, of the £27m they spent on him last summer.

Could Sadio Mane join Chelsea this summer?

Pochettino will know Mane well from his time in England, and a move would be more than welcome at Chelsea, who have been rather toothless in attack this term with just 30 goals in 32 Premier League games.

The Senegal star was dubbed “brutal” by Jurgen Klopp for his performances towards the end of last season, and he is also statistically similar to Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus, according to FBref, suggesting he could be an excellent addition for the Blues.

FBref considers the Gunners' Brazilian striker as the most similar player to Mane across Europe’s top five leagues, and considering how much of an impact Jesus has made at the Gunners this season – combined with his 95 goals for Manchester City – it isn’t a bad comparison to have, and we reckon Pochettino would love someone in a similar mould at the club next term.

This season has seen the two players register similar statistics with regard to goals (nine to seven), shots on target per game (1.42 to 1.38), goal-creating actions (both ten) and touches in the attacking penalty area (153 to 117), clearly suggesting they both offer an excellent attacking output which guarantees plenty of chances for their respective teams.

WhoScored also suggests that both Jesus and Mane like to cut inside often, while their main strengths are finishing and headed attempts, proving when being played out wide or through the middle, they possess a natural attacking intent.

We think bringing Mane to Chelsea would be a dream first signing for Pochettino, and if the winger could replicate the form he displayed during his six years at Liverpool, they could well challenge for honours next season.
