Norwegian striker starring in EnglandCould he be on the move in 2024?La Liga giants said to be keenWHAT HAS HAPPENED?

The prolific Norwegian frontman plundered 52 goals across all competitions last season – breaking countless records along the way – as he helped City to a historic Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League Treble. He has continued to star this season, leading to further speculation regarding supposed interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

AdvertisementGettyDOES HAALAND HAVE A RELEASE CLAUSE?

There is said to be a clause in Haaland’s deal that could be triggered by teams outside of England in the summer of 2024, but Rafaela Pimenta has told when asked what it would take for a deal to be done: "Erling's contract is known to Manchester City, his father, himself and me.”

COULD HAALAND LEAVE MAN CITY?

She went on to say of the transfer rumours that continue to rage: “Erling is the master of his destiny. Not just now but his entire life and 100%. What I mean is that you have to use balance. Us, club and player. We are all in the same boat. Things have to be talked about, treated, in such a way that everyone is okay. Comfortable and satisfied with the experience they live together. I think it is not necessary to say that Erling does what he wants. Is not true. Erling is always going to do what is good for him and for his club, Manchester City. When everyone is willing to make a change, it will be done. He's not the type of player who's going to say ‘I'm leaving, bye, I don't want to know anything’. It is not like this. And it's not going to happen because respect comes before everything. If they give it to him, he will give it too.”

GettyHOW MUCH IS HAALAND WORTH?

Pimenta has suggested in the past that Haaland could be worth as much as €1 billion (£875m/$1bn) in the transfer market, and he has expanded on that comment by saying: “When I talk about 1 billion, I talked about a pack in which I include the years of career, the sales potential, tickets, t-shirts, sponsors, digital and everything that is coming that does not yet exist. It is impossible to say how much each thing costs. You are actually asking me how much the transfer costs and you don't have to ask me this. The market says so.”

PSL mulls sixth team but franchises opposed to move

The PCB is considering the prospect of adding another team to the Pakistan Super League with the possibility of the sixth team being named Kashmir, after the territory of Pakistan-administered Kashmir in Pakistan

Umar Farooq09-May-2016The PCB is considering the prospect of adding another team to the Pakistan Super League with the possibility of the sixth team being named Kashmir, after the territory of Pakistan-administered Kashmir in Pakistan. The move looks unlikely, however, for different reasons: opposition from some of the current franchises on financial grounds and the potential for controversy given Kashmir’s sensitive status vis-a-vis India. The current structure of the PSL comprises five teams whose names are derived from provincial capitals – Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta and Peshawar. According to a contract signed between the PCB and the franchises, the number of teams cannot be increased until the third edition.Sethi had tweeted last month: “My dream is to launch 6th Kashmir team in PSL this year. Hope our five franchisee partners will support me in this initiative.” Peshawar Zalmi team owner Javed Afridi supported Sethi’s initiative but the other teams were not as enthused. Sethi said Kashmir, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Gilgit-Baltistan were in the fray for the potential team.”We will not have [a new team] until the third year that is written,” Sethi confirmed in an exclusive interview with ESPNcricinfo. “But at the same time we are looking at the financials about the addition of a sixth team, in terms of whether it will be Kashmir, Faisalabad, Sialkot or Gilgit-Baltistan or any other team. That decision is pending. We have to weigh up the pros and cons and that’s the issue right now but we cannot have it until franchises agree. Without their consent we can’t make it.”The opposition from the franchises is centered around the potential cut in their share from the central revenue pool. After the inaugural edition of the PSL, 70% of the revenue was split equally among the five franchises and the percentage would have been higher had the tournament been held in Pakistan instead of the UAE. Sethi said he was trying to convince teams that the addition of a sixth side would benefit them.”Of course we have to offer guarantee to the teams that they will be better by having a sixth team and have to convince them. I have my team working on different values and estimated profits and revenues before pitching this idea to them but this idea is definitely under consideration. Basically the advice from our finance department is that this is the high time to add sixth team as the values are very high at this stage before the second edition. We have to cash in the hype we have created from the first edition and this may or may go down next year.”The PCB regulates the franchises and manages the day-to day-cash flow, bearing the cost of logistics and payment to foreign and local players to avoid any dispute. Sethi confirmed the spending cap of each franchise, currently placed at US$1.2m, has been increased by 10% for the second season.Najam Sethi confirmed the possibility of creating a sixth team to boost the league’s valuation•AFPIn a recent PCB meeting, Sethi, who is also head of the central executive committee, made a bid to register PSL as an independent entity, primarily to cut down on hefty taxes paid by the Pakistan board and the franchises. Sethi took up the case with the finance ministry, but the negotiations fell through; the only concession was the overseas players getting a tax-free salary.”The idea is to make it a non-profit, registering it as separate company, to allow PCB to re-invest the net profits into development of cricket,” Sethi said. “Right now it is still in the pipeline and may not be an easy task. Although we sought seed money from the PCB budget for the first edition, we will have our own budgets from next year. We thought it will be a PCB-owned company but absolutely independent, and whatever money PSL makes it will go down into development which will be exempted from tax.”According to Sethi the first edition of the league generated $11.4million in revenue which is 30% higher in value than the estimated $8.02million. He admitted direct and operational expenditures had increased from $7.71million to $8.93million but PCB still manage to produce an estimated profit of $2.47million. The tournament operations were started with approximately $3-4m of seed money from the PCB’s budget and more income was generated after selling the five teams for $9.3 million.”We have beaten our own expectations and the asset value of each team has increased drastically,” Sethi said. “Teams aren’t really making profit right now from the market and they need time to make themselves a proper brand but their asset value has gone up significantly. If anyone of the team want to sell their team they can get hike of one million in their original price, which is a welcoming sign. They incurred some loses and we have covered it up from our own PCB’s central pool and gave them $400,000 each apart from the 70% of our revenues from broadcaster, gate money, title sponsorship etc.”Sharing key figures from the financial report, Sethi said: “We sold franchises in $9.3million with the first year and revenue from other means was $2.11million for the first edition. We spent $1.22million extra from our estimated budget $7.71m; the expenditures were $4.71m in direct and $4.22m in operational cost which is mainly because of the high value of renting the stadium in UAE which cost us $3.27m (Dubai and Sharjah).”The PCB is also mooting workshops to give franchises an understanding on how to leverage their business further and explore different revenue streams at a time when they are yet to break even. “Teams should be profitable by the third year,” he said. “We have been insisting that merchandising is a key revenue stream for them. That is directly linked to the marketability of the franchise and so far Peshawar is the only team that has done fairly well in this regard. We also need them to step up and market themselves better.”

How England's Lionesses should line up vs Colombia in 2023 Women's World Cup: Jordan Nobbs deserves her chance with Lauren James suspended

The Aston Villa star has earned the right to shine as Sarina Wiegman prepares to make a huge decision in midfield

Another game, another selection dilemma for England head coach Sarina Wiegman. Lauren James' red card in the Lionesses' Women's World Cup last 16 victory over Nigeria, on penalties, has thrown up another problem for her to solve as the European champions prepare to face Colombia in the quarter-finals on Saturday.

"I have never experienced so many problems," she admitted after Monday's match. "But, of course, that's my job to think of things that can happen in a game, or in a tournament, or ahead of a tournament. You try to turn every stone and already think of the solution before it happens."

What solution will she come up with, then, to replace James? The Chelsea star shone as a winger against Denmark and then as a No.10 in the victory over China, the latter role coming in a new 3-5-2 set-up.

With her suspended, will Wiegman persist with the new system? Will she switch back to 4-3-3? Who will come into the team? Will there be any other changes? GOAL takes a look at how England should line up…

Getty ImagesGK: Mary Earps

A pretty simple one. With three clean sheets in four games, and having only conceded from the penalty spot, Earps has been one of the best performing goalkeepers at this tournament.

AdvertisementGettyRB: Lucy Bronze

For various reasons, Wiegman should revert back to the 4-3-3 set-up for this game and therefore Bronze should return to an orthodox right-back role.

Colombia are particularly strong out wide and the way Nigeria carved England open with ease down the flanks in the 3-5-2 system, exploiting the space left behind the wing-backs, was cause for concern. A back four should be less exposed, especially with two hard-working wingers in front of the full-backs.

GettyCB: Millie Bright

One of few players who came out of the Nigeria game with any credit, Bright did well to help keep the Super Falcons' lively attack at bay and she'll face another tough task on Saturday in trying to stifle a versatile and confident Colombian front line.

GettyCB: Alex Greenwood

One of England's best players at this tournament, Greenwood has played three different roles already and has been impressive in all of them.

She should partner Bright in a back four for the quarter-finals, able to show her quality in possession while her ability to read play and position herself well will help the Lionesses quieten the Colombia attack.

Orlando City's home form has continued to deteriorate in the new season, losing 3-1 to DC United last weekend. Since its 1-1 draw against Tigres UANL in the second leg of their CONCACAF round-of-16 match, Pareja's men have lost three consecutive games at the Exploria Stadium, falling to Charlotte FC, Nashville, and DC United.

Orlando City has now lost three of their first eight games while winning three and drawing two to earn 11 points and sit ninth in the Eastern Conference table, level on points with DC United and Philadelphia Union.

On the other hand, Los Angeles Galaxy finally earned its first win of the season last Sunday with a 2-0 victory over Austin FC at Dignity Health Sports Park.

Veteran striker Javier Hernandez and former Barcelona player Riqui Puig scored second-half goals to give the hosts a comfortable win and send Austin to a third consecutive away defeat.

Despite last weekend's victory, Galaxy has had a terrible start to the season, sitting second-from-bottom in the Western Conference rankings, three points ahead of Sporting Kansas City.

Premier League Team of the Week: Alli & Sanchez stand out after inspiring victories

The England midfielder helped Spurs get the better of Chelsea while Alexis orchestrated a victory over Swansea, earning their places in the latest XI

Dele Alli and Alexis Sanchez are the highlight names in this week's Premier League team of the week after helping their respective sides to important wins.

Alli was the star for Tottenham with two goals as they came from behind to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. His first, aided by his wonderful first touch to control a Eric Dier pass before beating Willy Caballero, stunned the onlooking crowd before he put the game beyond doubt to all but secure his side's place in the top four at the Blues' expense.

Alexis, meanwhile, shook off his early struggles at Manchester United to fire them to a win over Swansea City. With a goal and an assist, he gave Jose Mourinho's men a two-goal lead within 20 minutes to keep them in second place.

Dalmiya set to return as BCCI president

Jagmohan Dalmiya is set to return as the BCCI president, more than a decade after he last held that position

Amol Karhadkar in Chennai01-Mar-2015Jagmohan Dalmiya is set to return as the BCCI president, more than a decade after he last held that position, at the board’s AGM in Chennai on Monday. The former BCCI and ICC president has emerged as a consensus candidate between the two rival factions of the board, led by the sidelined incumbent N Srinivasan, and the former BCCI and ICC president Sharad Pawar, but the real power struggle might be witnessed in the elections to the junior positions.Dalmiya, who is president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, filed his nomination papers with support from his own association, the National Cricket Club in Kolkata and the four other east zone associations. Since it is the east zone’s turn to nominate the president for the three-year term, Dalmiya wanted to ensure that a candidate from the zone – rather than an outsider parachuting in – held the post. He had been approached by Pawar’s faction to contest as a candidate from their group, while Srinivasan’s group had asked him to pick between the post of president and “chief patron”, a position that doesn’t currently exist in the BCCI.Nominations for other posts

Vice-presidents
Pawar group Ravi Savant (west), Jyotiraditya Scindia (central)
Srinivasan group G Gangaraju (south), TC Mathew (west), CK Khanna (central), Gautam Roy (east), ML Nehru (north)

BCCI elections in the past decade have been a mere formality with all nine elected officials – president, secretary, treasurer, joint secretary and five vice-presidents – unanimous choices. This year is likely to be different, with elections expected for the remaining three principal office bearers’ posts. The Pawar group has nominated Anurag Thakur for secretary, Rajiv Shukla for treasurer and Chetan Desai – secretary of the Goa Cricket Association secretary and so long allied to Srinivasan – for the post of joint secretary, while Srinivasan’s has nominated Sanjay Patel, Anirudh Chaudhry and Amitabh Chaudhary for the posts of secretary, treasurer and joint secretary, respectively. In fact the power-play could begin at the start of the AGM, over the question of who will chair the meeting. It’s a key position, especially if there are electoral contests, because the chairman of the AGM gets two votes: One as chairman and a casting vote in the case of a tie. If he already has voting rights, as the nominee of an association, that makes three votes. The BCCI rules say the president presides over the AGM but the Supreme Court has clarified that Srinivasan can be a participant at the AGM only to the extent of casting his vote, as and when required, for the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association. It is then up to the house to decide who presides over the meeting. It is understood that the Srinivasan camp is likely to request the meeting at the start to allow Shivlal Yadav to chair the meeting since he was appointed by the Supreme Court as the interim president for administrative affairs during Srinivasan’s exile. It will make the point that allowing anyone else to chair the meeting could invite more litigation.Depending on how the number game pans out overnight, the Pawar lobby will decide on whether to back or oppose Yadav as chairman of the meeting. It will be mindful of what happened in 2004, when Dalmiya used his casting vote in favour of his candidate for president Ranbir Singh Mahendra – against Pawar. The chairman will also have to pick the legitimate representative of two key member associations, Delhi and Districts Cricket Association and Baroda Cricket Association, which have deputed members of two warring factions for the AGM. The chair decides the legitimate representative and also has the right to bar the disputed member from the AGM.The BCA managing committee has deputed Rakesh Parikh for the AGM, while its president Samarjit Gaekwad has decided to exercise his right to attend the AGM. CK Khanna, the Srinivasan group’s vice-presidential candidate, has claimed to be the official DDCA representative. However, Sneh Bansal, the incumbent BCCI vice-president, has questioned Khanna’s nomination through a court order. Also likely to be present at the meeting are Mehmood Abdi and Amin Pathan, representatives of the warring RCA factions, who will look to present their respective cases to the men who run Indian cricket. The pre-AGM meetings are being held at the Park Sheraton in Chennai, where Srinivasan is in the thick of the action. He was involved in meetings through the day, first with the face of the opposition camp Anurag Thakur in the morning and then with all the voters. Those in the Pawar camp were also shuttling between the two wings of the hotel. Also in the hotel is Aditya Verma, the petitioner in the IPL corruption scandal court case that has effectively brought things to this pass. Srinivasan’s sidelining has come about as a result of Verma’s PIL, which has also led to the election itself being twice deferred.Once the meeting is done and dusted the new board will have to get down to business. High up on the agenda – the fate of selectors, who are appointed for a year’s term at each AGM. Saba Karim and Rajinder Hans, both of whom have been recalled midway through the World Cup, are in danger of being replaced.

Beckham, Zidane & 12 stars who famously flopped at the World Cup

Gracing the grandest stage in football should be considered the pinnacle of a playing career, but for many that global dream has become a disaster

Getty ImagesDavid Beckham

A first outing at a major international tournament for the poster boy of English football ended in red card shame following an ill-advised flick of his right foot into the legs of Diego Simeone. Redemption would be achieved by the Manchester United and Real Madrid legend in the years which followed, but only after ‘Golden Balls’ had become the subject of burning effigies and terrace taunts at just about every stadium away from Old Trafford.

AdvertisementZinedine Zidane

A hero on home soil in 1998, one of the all-time greats endured a rather chequered World Cup history from that point. Four years on from his two-goal final heroics, Zidane saw injury restrict him to just one outing in a humbling group stage exit for the holders. It was, however, in 2006 that he would endure the most galling of World Cup moments, with the sight of him headbutting Marco Materazzi one which will live long in the memory for all of the wrong reasons.

Gonzalo Higuain

Without doubt one of the most fearsome frontmen in European football, with his pedigree having been proved at the likes of Real Madrid, Napoli and Juventus. Higuain does, however, have a tendency to fluff his lines when it matters most for Argentina. Missed a penalty in the 2015 Copa America final and squandered a glorious chance in a 2016 repeat with Chile. He had previous by then, with his inability to convert any of the chances which came his way in the 2014 World Cup final costing Argentina dear.
